SOURCE GUARDIAN: Zero-hours contract figures were wrong, ONS admits
Charities say new number is still an underestimate and call on government to commit more resources to review. The ONS revised their figures up from 200,000 to 250,000. But organisations like the Resolution Foundation and the Work Foundation believe this is a gross underestimate. The care minister, Norman Lamb, told the House of Commons last month that more than 300,000 people worked on zero-hours contracts in England's care sector alone. Employers known to use zero-hour contracts include the Tate gallery, Buckingham Palace, Sports Direct, Cineworld, Amazon and JD Wetherspoon.

BBC NEWS: More than a million UK workers are on zero-hours contracts with no guarantees of shifts or work patterns - four times higher than official estimates A survey of 1,000 employers by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development indicated 3-4% of the whole workforce were on such contracts. According to the CIPD's research, firms in the voluntary and public sectors were more likely to use zero-hours contracts than those in the private sector.
